Matt Glazer has worked for over 50 campaigns for candidates and non-profits in his first five years in politics, focusing most of his attention on environmental issues and internet strategies.
Glazer first got his start with internet organizing as one of the state directors for Generation Dean as part of the Howard Dean presidential campaign. He used online tools to train a new generation of organizers in and outside of Texas.
Immediately after the 2004 convention in Boston, he began working on campaigns all over the country ranging from a youth voter registration campaign in New Mexico to campaigning in Atlanta against Coca Cola's irresponsible bottling policies across the globe.
After two years, Glazer moved back to his native Texas and began working on municipal campaigns in San Antonio and statewide water issues during the 79th legislative session. However, the state legislature passage of HJR6 (the anti-family, marriage amendment) inspired Matt to refocus on social justice and he began a two year stint at Equality Texas and the No Nonsense in November Campaign.
While campaigning, Glazer always maintained a political blog and used the internet as a way to organize partisan and non-partisan campaigns. After managing Just Another Blog, Glazer was hired at Burnt Orange Report as a writer and within six months was made editor of the site.
During this same period, Glazer worked the 80th legislative session for Rep. Pete Gallego focusing on natural resource issues and moving back to his environmental specialty-water. He now does freelance work ranging from campaign management to strategic consulting. During 2008, Glazer worked for Travis County judicial candidates, Austin City Councilmember Laura Morrison, and Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie.
Matt just wrapped up working on the Travis County Coordinated Campaign as the Communication Director where he headed both traditional outreach and new online strategies. During the 2008 election cycle, Glazer was also the Director and founder of the TexBlog PAC, a political action committee comprised of seven local Texas bloggers. The PAC endorsed five candidates and celebrated four victories in November.
Glazer was recently recognized for his use of new media. The Austin American Statesman awarded Matt and 24 other Texans a Texas Social Media Award for his use of online tools like Twitter, Facebook, and other new tools.
Currently, Glazer is a consultant and online strategist for the Texas League of Conservation Voters, the Travis County Democratic Party, and the Lee Leffingwell for Mayor Campaign.
