Cynthia J. Jackson

Director of Communications & Marketing
Hankamer School of Business, Baylor University

Intent on making her living as a girl geek, CJ worked at the Iowa State University Computation Center to pay her way through school, earning a degree from ISU in Communications, with minors in Computer Science and English. In the mid-80s a hybrid study combining these fields was unique. Thus, the day after graduation, CJ threw her children and cat in the car and moved across the country to do marketing and PR for a technology company.

Yes, NCR Corporation is a technology company (just ask Mark Hurd). CJ held various director-level positions in her 13 years there, all in media relations, PR and marketing communications. Most recently, she was director of marketing communications for NCR’s Retail Solutions business (FastLane, scanners, checkout systems and other store automation technology). While at NCR, she earned numerous awards from professional organizations, including a Gold Quill from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) for best interactive marketing program.

Six years ago, CJ left corporate life behind. She threw her stuff in the car again, moving from Atlanta to Waco to be director of Communications & Marketing for Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business. She is responsible for initiatives that build awareness, preference and prestige among various stakeholder groups. Her responsibilities include marketing strategy, branding, publications, social media and online communications, advertising, media relations, promoting conferences and speakers, and internal communications.

Recognition in 2008 includes another Gold Quill from the IABC, a Best of Texas Silver (first place) from the Texas Public Relations Association (TPRA), a Bronze Anvil Award of Commendation from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and a Communicator Award from the International Academy of the Visual Arts.
